About Dr. John

A chiropractor who treats the cause, not the symptom

Dr. John Blenio has been helping patients in San Mateo get out of pain, restore movement, and stay active since 2010. As the founder of High Amplitude Health Chiropractic, he built his practice around a single principle: treat what's actually causing the pain, not just the pain itself.

With 18 years of clinical experience and advanced training in Active Release Therapy, chiropractic spinal adjusting, and exercise rehabilitation, Dr. Blenio brings a level of specificity and depth that most chiropractic offices don't offer. Every appointment begins with 25 minutes of hands-on soft tissue therapy before the adjustment — so your joints are already mobile, your muscles are already relaxed, and the adjustment goes deeper and holds longer.

Dr. Blenio is particularly sought after by athletes and active individuals. Having been an athlete his entire life, he understands what it means to be sidelined — and what it takes to get back to full performance. His patients range from weekend warriors and competitive athletes to desk workers dealing with chronic pain from years of poor posture.

His approach is direct, educational, and results-oriented. Most patients notice significant improvement within 3–5 visits. Many have never experienced that kind of result anywhere else.

The Athlete Behind the Doctor

A competitive athlete — for life

Dr. Blenio's understanding of the body wasn't built in a classroom — it was built on fields, courses, and trails. It started at age 12 in Pop Warner football with a Campbell, CA team that won the state championship. From there he played soccer, ran track (the mile and cross country), and competed in basketball before channeling his focus into high school football at San Rafael High, where he played cornerback and wide receiver alongside and against players who went on to play in the NFL.

That level of play earned him recruitment interest from Sonoma State, Cal State East Bay, and San Francisco State. He chose College of Marin instead, playing two seasons as a wide receiver. As an adult, he took up downhill mountain bike racing — competing at the Expert level and earning multiple podium finishes before stepping away for over a decade while getting through chiropractic school and building his practice.

In his early 40s he picked up golf, eventually working his handicap down to a 10 and shooting a career-best 77 three times. Then in 2017, at age 52, he got back on the bike. Within a few years he was racing again, and in 2024 at age 58 he entered the California Enduro Series — a multi-stage format with roughly five timed descents in a single day — and won the championship in his age bracket. Across every sport, the pattern has been the same: compete seriously, improve deliberately, stay in it for the long run. He attributes a remarkably low injury rate throughout his career to strong body awareness, balance, and physical conditioning — the same qualities he now helps his patients develop.

2009

2009 – Present
16+ Years of ART Clinical Practice
Over 16 years of continuous clinical application of ART across 500+ protocols — treating athletes and active patients for soft tissue injuries, repetitive strain, nerve entrapment, and chronic pain conditions.

What is Active Release Therapy?

ART is a patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Every ART session combines examination and treatment — the provider uses hands-on tension combined with specific patient movements to break up scar tissue and adhesions.

Conditions treated with ART include headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow.

Why Chiropractic

A personal path to practice

Dr. Blenio's path to chiropractic wasn't academic — it was personal. The non-surgical, drug-free philosophy of chiropractic care resonated with him long before he enrolled in chiropractic school. He had seen what overreliance on medication could do, and he was drawn to an approach that worked with the body's natural ability to heal.

The defining moment came in his early 30s when a chiropractor eliminated a significant headache problem that had been affecting his quality of life. The experience was immediate and lasting — and it changed the direction of his career. He didn't just want to be better. He wanted to do that for others.

As a lifelong athlete, Dr. Blenio was also drawn to chiropractic's natural overlap with sports medicine. He understood the frustration of being sidelined, the impatience of slow recovery, and the difference between a provider who just treats symptoms and one who actually understands how an athlete's body works and what it demands.

That background — combined with his ART training and 18 years of clinical experience — is what makes his approach different. He's not just treating a condition. He's treating a person who wants to move freely, perform well, and stay out of pain for good.

"I didn't want to just treat pain. I wanted to get to the cause of it — and teach patients how to take care of themselves so they don't keep coming back."
