What Is Active Release Therapy?

More than massage —
it's targeted healing

Active Release Technique (ART) is a patented, movement-based soft tissue method that targets muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. By combining precise manual pressure with specific patient movements, it breaks up scar tissue and adhesions that build up from overuse, injury, or poor posture.

When tissue gets stuck or thickened — whether from repetitive strain or old injuries — it compresses nerves, restricts movement, and causes chronic pain. ART finds and fixes those restrictions directly at the source. Most patients notice a meaningful difference within just a few sessions.

At High Amplitude Health, ART is integrated alongside spinal adjusting and exercise therapy for a whole-body approach that gets you back to doing what you love, faster.

Why It Works

Four reasons ART gets
results others miss

It treats the actual source
ART doesn't just ease symptoms — it locates and releases the adhesion or restriction causing the problem. No guesswork, no masking pain with heat or passive treatment.
Many patients come to us after months of physical therapy that addressed the symptom but never the stuck tissue underneath.
Muscles, nerves, and fascia — all at once
Unlike techniques that work on one tissue type, ART simultaneously addresses the muscle, the surrounding fascia, and any nerve entrapments — all in a single treatment.
This matters most for conditions like carpal tunnel, sciatica, and thoracic outlet syndrome, where nerves are often the primary issue.
Active — not passive
You move during treatment. That active engagement re-trains your nervous system while tissue is being released, locking in better movement patterns that last.
Passive treatments often provide short-term relief. ART creates durable change by combining manual work with neurological re-education.
Fast, lasting results
Most patients see significant improvement in 3–6 sessions. Because ART addresses root causes, results tend to hold — especially when paired with corrective exercises.
Dr. John combines ART with spinal adjusting and guided exercise to ensure your body doesn't just feel better — it stays better.
Who It Helps

Is ART right
for you?

ART is effective for a wide range of muscle, nerve, and soft tissue conditions — from everyday overuse injuries to chronic pain that hasn't responded to other treatment.

01

Repetitive Strain & Overuse Injuries

Tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, shin splints, Achilles tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis — ART breaks the scar tissue cycle that keeps these injuries coming back.

02

Nerve Entrapments

Carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica from piriformis syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome — ART releases the muscle or fascial compression trapping the nerve.

03

Shoulder & Rotator Cuff Pain

Impingement, rotator cuff dysfunction, and chronic shoulder tightness all respond well to targeted myofascial release and ART combined.

04

Desk Workers & Tech Neck

Hours at a screen create chronic tissue restrictions in the neck, shoulders, and forearms. ART undoes the damage and helps retrain posture.

05

Athletes & Active Individuals

From weekend warriors to competitive athletes, ART keeps muscles and joints moving freely — reducing injury risk and improving performance.

06

Post-Surgical Scar Tissue

Adhesions following shoulder, hip, and knee procedures can limit recovery. ART gently restores mobility when standard rehab stalls.

07

Considering Surgery?

Many patients referred for carpal tunnel release, sciatica surgery, or knee procedures find that ART resolves their condition without going under the knife.

Ready to feel
like yourself again?

Whether you've been dealing with pain for weeks or years, most patients notice meaningful improvement within just a few visits. Dr. John will identify exactly what's causing your problem — and fix it.
