Active Release Therapy (A.R.T.)

For muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries, some healthcare providers use soft tissue techniques such as massage, trigger point therapy, electric muscle stimulation, and ultrasound. As a chiropractic sports therapist, I use all of these methods with many successful outcomes. But, there are some injuries that require a more focused approach. That’s where Active Release Therapy comes in.

Active Release Therapy (also know as A.R.T.) specifically addresses the formation of scar tissue and inflammation that has built up at an injured muscle, tendon, ligament, or joint. The application of A.R.T. is highly effective at breaking up the scar tissue and inflammation that causes pain. By breaking up the scar tissue, elasticity is restored, improved function occurs, and discomfort and pain is greatly reduced and most often eliminated.

With chiropractic care and A.R.T., your muscles, tendons, ligaments, AND joints can be restored to full health.

A.R.T. – Conservative, Non-Surgical Repair Process

Rotator Cuff Tears

Have you been diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff by an Orthopedic Physician? There may be no need for surgery. Physical Therapy (P.T.) helps restore function and reduce pain, but P.T. alone often does not completely fix the problem. That’s where Active Release Therapy comes in. A.R.T. takes you to the next level of healing. The treatment plan for many rotator cuff injuries includes:

  • Active Release Therapy
  • Trigger Point Therapy
  • Adjustments to the Shoulder Joint

Tennis Elbow(Adhesive Capsuitis)

Tennis elbow comes from repetitive motion and overuse of the lower arm, wrist, and hand. Playing tennis, spending 4-8 hours per day at your computer, and the activities required in many different professions result in overuse. A.R.T. resolves tennis elbow by reducing inflammation, breaking up muscle adhesions (micro-scarring), and restoring normal muscle function.

  • Treatment plan includes:
  • Active Release Therapy
  • Trigger Point Therapy
  • Stretching
  • Home Exercises

Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsuitis)

Your medical doctor may tell you that frozen shoulder resolves itself within 1-2 years. Active Release Therapy can resolve it in as little as 2-4 months. Treatment plan includes:

  • Active Release Therapy
  • Trigger Point Therapy
  • Mobilization
  • Stretching
  • Home Exercises

Plantar Fasciitis & Other Foot Ankle Problems

Plantar fasciitis can be repaired with the help of A.R.T. A complete plan for resolving the condition is the best method. To fix plantar fasciitis, the treatment plan includes:

  • A.R.T. Treatments
  • Barefoot Walking Therapy
  • Stability Disc Exercise

Why Choose Dr. John Blenio?

“I am passionate about my role as a chiropractor and sports injury specialist. Restoring your health and getting you pain free as quickly as possible is my number one focus. It’s also important for me to teach you how to “listen to your body.” The more you are able to “listen” to the signs your body gives when injury is immanent, the better chance you have at resolving the problem before you actually become injured. “Listening to your body” is the key to staying injury free, and I teach you how to do that.”

Great job Dr. Blenio. Neck feels wonderful every single time. Dr. Blenio not only focuses on the joints, but also the soft tissues.
Nice and clean office, plenty of parking.

Dr. John’s priority is to fix the problem rather than trying to prolong treatment (which I’ve experienced at other chiropractors before). He’s knowledgeable, effective, and flexible with scheduling. Definitely has helped alleviate an acute lower back problem. I suggest you try him.
Chris W., San Mateo, CA
Dr. John is a fantastic chiropractor! He’s helped me out on a regular basis with back pain and headaches. And, he did an amazing job getting me quickly back into my workout routine after an ankle injury. I highly recommend him!
Stacy N., Burlingame, CA
The last time I had been to a chiropractor was about 15 years ago. Several weeks ago my middle back was killing me and I really didn’t know where to go, until stumbling upon the yelp reviews for Dr. John Blenio. He was close to my work so I thought, why not?

Highly recommend John Blenio for any physical therapy. It is easy to schedule an appointment with him. Also, he is very knowledgable about physical therapy. It took him about six sessions to relieve the pain in my arms. I felt the result immediately after the 1st session.
